We’re excited to announce the release of Version 0.1 of Ilu Finder, a digital tool developed at OMS Labs to make Igbo proverbs accessible, searchable, and useful for learners, speakers, and lovers of Igbo culture.

If you're an Igbo native speaker or learner, cultural researcher, or simply curious about the wisdom embedded in Igbo proverbs, Ilu Finder gives you a simple, effective way to explore this important aspect of Igbo heritage.

What Is Ilu Finder?

Ilu Finder is a searchable database of Igbo proverbs, organized into categories to help users explore the depth and beauty of ilu Igbo (Igbo proverbs) with ease. With each proverb comes its English meaning, so that users at every stage of fluency can understand, learn, and apply them.

What’s Available in Version 0.1

In this first release, we’ve focused on building a solid foundation that makes finding proverbs intuitive and useful. Here’s what you can do right now:

🔍 Search Function: Type in keywords, ideas, or themes and instantly find matching proverbs. No more flipping through books or searching tirelessly online, ilu is now at your fingertips.
🗂️ Browse by Category: Want to explore proverbs about wisdom, family, hard work, or nature? You can browse by theme to discover ilu connected to specific aspects of life.
✍️ Suggest a Proverb: Know a proverb that’s not in the database? You can submit or suggest new proverbs, helping us grow and enrich the collection over time, together.
📚 373 Proverbs and Counting: We’re launching with 373 carefully selected Igbo proverbs, each one meaningful, timeless, and valuable. And this is just the beginning.

What’s Coming Next

Ilu Finder is still in its early stages, but our vision is expansive. Here’s what we’re working toward in future updates:

🗣️ Audio Pronunciations: Hear native speakers pronounce each proverb in Igbo, helping learners and non-speakers develop better understanding and pronunciation.
🔤 Igbo Word Tonal Marking: We’ll add tonal markings of specific Igbo words and expressions used in each proverb to make learning even more effective.
🖼️ Visual Generator for Proverbs: Soon, you’ll be able to generate custom images with your favorite proverbs to download or share on social media, websites, or presentations.
📈 Expanded Database: Over time, we aim to build the most comprehensive online repository of Igbo proverbs, with thousands of entries carefully documented.
