What is Ofo in Igbo Tradition?

In Igbo tradition, Ọfọ is the sacred instrument of truth, justice, and ancestral authority—a living symbol through which the presence of the ancestors and the gods is continually acknowledged. As a traditional sacred tool, it is a covenant that binds its holder to righteousness, fairness, and accountability in all dealings. Whether held by a lineage head, a titled leader, or a Dibia, Ọfọ confers not just authority but responsibility, demanding integrity and moral uprightness.
